Crop Modelling

Crop Modelling

Within the AGRI4CAST Action various crop models are used and further developed for the simulation of crop growth under different conditions, for several crops, and with different objectives from research and development to operational application.

The following crop models and modelling systems are used in AGRI4CAST:

  • CGMS: The Crop Growth Monitoring System as the core of the operational crop yield forecasting activities of the Action.
  • WOFOST: Within CGMS a version of the WOFOST crop model is implemented, adapted to the application at European scale.
  • WARM: The rice model WARM is used operationally within the MARS Crop Yield Forecasting System for the estimation of rice yield in Europe.
  • BioMA: A modelling framework for Biophysical Model Applications developed within AGRI4CAST Action, currently used within climate change impact studies (e.g. AVEMAC, Peseta II) and technology transfer projects with BioMA-based applications tailored to regional conditions (e.g. E-AGRI, EuroCLima)
  • CropSyst: A multi-crop model implemented within BioMA for crop growth simulations, currently applied e.g. in climate change impact studies
  • APES: The Agricultural Production and Externalities Simulator (APES) implemented within BioMA.
