The competitiveness of the European economy benefits from increased access to harmonised information and interoperable services related to items of community policy relevance. Innovation in a knowledge intensive society includes making this information available in an efficient way and storing it in a secure manner.
The CID (Community Image Data portal) is an Action launched under the 7th Framework Program, in the MARS Unit. It relates to the acquisition, access and storage of Satellite (and aerial) Remote Sensing data in the context of the JRC and Commission Services' needs. The Action also provides support in the field of data policy and data management for GMES.

The CID Action was created in January 2007 at the start of the 7th Framework Program. It has been outcropped from the former MARS-PAC Action of the MARS Unit of the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen.
Most of us were involved in the acquisition and archiving of the satellite imagery needed for the Control with Remote Sensing campaigns. More information about these activities can be found here.
