The GEOLAND project is funded by the DG RTD of the EU in the context of the GMES initiative. Within Geoland, the MARS unit is a partner with seven other institutions in the Observatory for Food security and crop Monitoring.

The Global Monitoring for Food Security (GMFS) project is funded by ESA under GMES initiative. On the contrary to GEOLAND which was clearly research oriented, the GMFS project goal is to develop an operational system for Food security at global level. The JRC-MARS unit is part of the strategic group of the project and, representing the EU, one of the main client of the GMFS products.

The GLOBCAST study aims at the enlargement of the existing MARS CROP YIELD FORECASTING SYSTEM (MCYFS) to other areas of the world.
