November 2021
SYR: In Syria, sowings of winter cereals usually start in October with the onset of seasonal rainfall. There is some concern this year due to below average rainfall (from -30% in Hassakeh and Idleb to nearly -50% in Aleppo) for the last month in northern Syria and for the next 3 months according to WMO multi-model forecast. Moreover the level of water reservoirs is clearly below the 2020 levels, but it is too early to make any diagnosis as sowings of winter cereals take place till December-January.
