Selection of FAO crop calendars matching with ASAP phenology
The warning classification shown by this website is based on an algorithm applied to global datasets.
The aim is to provide basic and timely warnings about agro-climatic anomalies which could affect agricultural production. Because the system uses a single approach for the whole globe and is based only on the observations of estimated meteorological variables (at the current stage only rainfall estimates) and of a vegetation index, it is not able to encompass the full local variability of climate effects on agricultural production. For this reason, omissions and commissions in identifying agricultural problems cannot be excluded.
For a complete overview of agriculture production at the country level we recommend not to use this Web GIS as the only source of information but to fully explore other more detailed sources.
For Europe we remind that the official EC source of agricultural information and statistics are the JRC-MARS bulletins.
The geographic and thematic information contained does not imply a policy position of the European Commission.
